Accordion during COVID

Post by alan »

On the news last night they showed a man,I can’t remember if he was in Switzerland or Italy, his wife is quarantined because of COVID so every day he sits in the courtyard of her hospital and plays the accordion for her. It was very moving.

I have really appreciated having accordion in my life during COVID (and also recently retired!) My other musical outlet is classical bassoon, which has pretty much DIED since we can't rehearse or perform. But I can (and have) taken my accordion all over the place to play...no group rehearsal to figure out, and I've added a bit of music to the scene at our beautiful Minneapolis lakes and parks, and even a few senior residences that will let me in (I played one gig all by myself in a big room, and they put me on closed circuit TV for everyone to watch). ALSO, I've spent a great deal of time online with the likes of Ronen, Dan Newton, Karen Tweed, and Alex Meixner...great role models and sources for new ideas and repertoire.
