Accompanying Voice and Others With Your Accordion

3 Chapters 4 Lessons Intermediate

In this lesson I discuss the basics of accompanying your own voice and other musicians. In both scenarios, you are providing a  background layer for your voice or other musicians. They are providing the lead, or melody. It's important not to overwhelm the lead or melody, but instead  support it and in some cases, contribute to it.

I discuss a few ways of accompanying others or your own voice:

  • Just the left hand providing rhythm or padding
  • Just the right hand providing rhythm or padding
  • Both hands combined to provide rhythm or padding

In any of the cases above, knowledge of left and right hand basics as well as chord voicings  will make your backing richer.
